For anyone wondering, the new Flash Gordon is ... so bad. It isn't even so-bad-and-so-fun-to-make-fun-of-it
bad. It's just bad. So Bad.

Yeah, for some reason, no one can make a Flash Gordon that isn't terrible in most ways. We've been watching the original 1936 serial with the kids and they love it. But I find it as poor as anything ever made. The only adaptation of Flash Gordon that is any good is Star Wars.

I tivo'd the pilot, and michelle and I tried to watch it last night. It was, as Davey says, so bad. I kept saying to myself "This will all get better when we see some awesome bald mustachioed sinister asian man in a robe appear as Ming the Merciless - that will save this wretched show!" But then a middle-aged white dude in a uniform that made him look like he'd been on the set of Spaceballs introduced himself as Ming, and I knew there was no hope for it.

I have to recommend the adaptation directed by Sonja and starring Quinn as Flash, with Laurel making a special guest Iguananoid appearance. Truly engaging cinema.
