The Water is Wide

A good rain is a good thing, but it's starting to annoy me. The glowing green of my backyard was joyful to see last week... now it's monotonous and nearly oppressive. We have had four inches of rain in the last week and I went out today to see how high up the dike the water was. It wasn't far, but the mosquitos are going to have a good year. We had a break of sunshine and high clouds for a few hours yesterday, which was enough time to eat our dinner at the new picnic table on the back porch. Just a few hours later, we had our first thunderstorm this year and it was pretty exciting. Now the rain goes on and on in sheets and drips, cats and dogs, sprinkles and buckets... it has to end someday, right?
